Songleikr

Songleikr is a Norwegian music project founded by Ingrid Galadriel Aune Falch and Maria Franz. Rooted in Nordic traditions while embracing contemporary expression, Songleikr creates music that moves freely between folk, progressive pop and atmospheric soundscapes.

Rather than recreating the past, Songleikr explores the emotional landscapes that connect us across time. History, mythology, nature and the human experience all serve as sources of inspiration, allowing ancient ideas to resonate through a contemporary musical language.

The project first emerged in the early 2000s, when Ingrid, Maria and Danish producer Christopher Juul met at a Viking reenactment event. More than a decade later, they reunited to record Songleikr's debut album, Godtfolk, released in 2016. Since then, the music has found dedicated listeners around the world, and Songleikr has performed at festivals and venues across Europe and the United States.

The second album, Fuglefolk (2026), expands the project's collaborative nature. Alongside Ingrid and Maria, the artistic core now includes British vocalist and flautist Kasia Sikora-Black. The recording also features drummer Petter-Olai Østbye Sagen, while the touring ensemble is joined by multi-instrumentalist Espen Wensaas.

Songleikr is fundamentally a collaborative project. While Ingrid, Maria and Kasia shape its artistic direction, every musician brings their own voice and perspective, allowing each recording and performance to develop organically. Improvisation, attentive listening and a shared commitment to authenticity are central to the creative process, making every collaboration a conversation rather than a fixed arrangement.
